White rice jambalaya mix

Jambalaya

Savory Cajun Jambalaya mix lets you make a really delicious jambalaya in about 30 minutes. We're not the only company with a jambalaya mix, but ours is very, very good. We use a high-quality parboiled white rice, which produces a consistently great result.

Cook it with no added meat for a wonderful rice dish with a heady mix of flavors, or turn leftover meat into something special. Makes a generous amount of rice — add 16 oz of cubed meat to each pack and two packs will fill a catering half-pan.

Directions

  1. Put 2 tbsp butter or olive oil in a pot.
  2. (Optional) Cube 16 oz of cooked, seasoned meat — chicken, sausage, shrimp or any combination — and pan-sear.
  3. Add the rice mix and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer 25 minutes.
  4. Turn off the heat, fluff, and let set 5–10 minutes until all the liquid is absorbed. Serve.

Serving tips

  • Classic combination: smoked sausage and chicken. Deer backstrap is a customer favorite.
  • Brown the meat well first. The browned bits add a lot of flavor to the rice.
  • Keep the lid on while it simmers, and don't stir, so the rice cooks evenly.
  • Feeding a crowd? Two packs with meat fill a catering half-pan.

Questions

Why parboiled rice?

Parboiled rice keeps more nutrients and doesn't clump, so the last scoop is as good as the first.

Do I have to add meat?

No. Without meat it makes a flavorful rice dish. With meat it's a full meal.

How many does it serve?

It makes a generous amount. Two packs with meat fill a catering half-pan.
